1. Who we are
Tippin is an independently developed iOS and Android app built by KSE Labs ("we", "us", "our"), based in South Africa. Tippin helps you calculate tips and split bills. You can reach us at engineers@kselabs.com.
2. Information we collect
We are committed to collecting as little data as possible.
Data stored on your device only:
- Your in-app purchase status (whether you've unlocked the app)
- Onboarding completion state
- Bill amounts, person names, and split details you enter — these are only held in memory and never persisted or transmitted
Aggregate analytics (no personal data):
We collect anonymous event counters to understand how the app is used. These are simple tallies (e.g. "how many times was the calculator used today") with no user identifiers, device identifiers, IP addresses, or location data attached.
- App opens
- Paywall views
- Purchase completions
- Feature usage counts (bill calculations, split screen opens, receipt scans)
These counters cannot be traced back to any individual.
3. Information we do not collect
- Name, email, or contact details
- Location or GPS data
- Device identifiers (IDFA, IDFV, Android ID)
- Photos or camera images (receipt scans are processed entirely on-device using Apple/Google ML Kit and are never uploaded)
- Financial or payment card information
- Usage patterns tied to any individual
4. In-App Purchases
Tippin offers a one-time purchase to unlock all features. Purchases are processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We do not handle, see, or store any payment information. Please refer to Apple's and Google's privacy policies for details on how they process payments.
Your purchase status is stored locally on your device using the platform's native secure storage.
5. Third-party services
Tippin uses the following third-party services:
- Apple StoreKit / Google Play Billing — to process in-app purchases
- Google ML Kit (Text Recognition) — to scan receipt text. Processing is entirely on-device; no images or text are sent to Google's servers
- Google Firebase (Firestore) — to store anonymous aggregate counters for internal analytics only. No personal data is sent
6. Camera and photo library
Tippin requests access to your camera and photo library solely to let you scan a receipt. Images are processed locally on your device using on-device machine learning. No images are stored by the app or transmitted to any server.
7. Children's privacy
Tippin is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU/UK). We do not knowingly collect any data from children. If you believe a child has provided data, please contact us and we will take appropriate action.
8. Data retention
Since we do not collect personal data, there is nothing to retain or delete. Your in-app purchase status and preferences are stored locally on your device and can be cleared by uninstalling the app.
9. Your rights
Because we do not collect personal data, rights such as access, correction, or deletion do not apply in the traditional sense. If you have questions about data related to your in-app purchase (processed by Apple or Google), please contact those platforms directly.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy occasionally. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
